Draft 2 SRWC Expansion Update

Saco River Wildlife Center announced the acquisition of 57 Christian Hill Road in April 2023. This capital campaign represents a significant step forward in our commitment to wildlife conservation and rehabilitation. The new facility will allow us to grow and meet the needs of our organization, enabling us to continue caring for wildlife in need. The new facility, nestled on 18.22 acres of land, will address the rapid increase in the number of wildlife treated since our founding in 2015. With 900 animals treated in 2023, 755 in 2022, and 730 as of now in 2024, this expansion is essential as we have outgrown our current space in founder Bethany Brown’s basement.

This report shares updates on our progress and what we need to complete the capital campaign. To date, we’ve raised a significant portion of the funds necessary, but we still have a way to go. Our goals include the continued reconstruction of the house, building outdoor enclosures at the new site, and enhancing our veterinary facilities to provide the highest standard of care. Your support is crucial in helping us achieve these milestones.

Outdoor Enclosure Plan

Our current plan for the new Saco River Wildlife Center facility includes the construction of 15 enclosures: 7 for raccoons, 7 multi-use, and 1 semi-aquatic. These enclosures will be built using the natural landscape, incorporating trees and rocks into the design rather than removing them. This approach mirrors our current practices, ensuring a natural and enriching environment for the wildlife
